6-Week TOUR February-23-05 to April 5-05 |
|||
| Just
returning from a 6-week whirlwind, DIVA JOAN
CARTWRIGHT, spent one week in Caiscais,
Portugal with her Ghanaian clothing designer friend, AKU-SIKA.
When she arrived on February 24, the weather was chilly. It never warmed
up.
After a couple of days in Caiscais, where Sika's family kept an apartment to accommodate their 15-year-old daughter, Shirley, Sika, Joan and Mr. Barrett drove down to their home in The Algarve, in the south of Portugal. Though Joan wished for warmer weather, she never got it. Sika designs the silk used to make shoes and clothing at her home in The Algarve. Her tailor, _______________, from Holland helps Sika bring her designs to the real world.

JC
flew to Casablanca, Morocco, where I spent four
days at the Le
Royal Mansour Meridien Hotel, owned by the Royal Family. On the
little jet plane to Casablanca from Lisbon, The Diva met Isabella, a
diplomat from Brazil who got our Diva invited to dinner at the home of the
American Ambassador, Roberto Powers from Ohio.

| The
Dames took a train to Frankfurt to catch their plane back to Atlanta. My
last day in Milan, I spent the afternoon with my long-time friend, Roberto
Lupano, who works for Dolce & Gabbana. Recently,
he married Silvia and became a daddy to a beautiful baby girl. The Lupanos
are happy. Tired, but very happy.
After an aperitif at happy hour at a very pinkly decorated bar, I had Japanese food at a restaurant where all the Japanese people spoke perfect Italian. That was culture shock! The next morning, I paid 90 Euro ($120) for the limo to the airport. Sheeeesh, they coulda called a cab. |
