Lemme Telya Sumthin

By Diva Joan Cartwright

2005 has been an interesting year, as odd years go. I visited Morocco and Portugal and fulfilled the dream of taking my daughter to Italy. AND I flew an airplane!

I began singing at Ellington's on Sanibel Island, again, after the devastation of hurricanes in 2004. I became a certified TV producer. I think that's an awful lot in one year. What do you think? Email me. jazzisus@aol.com

I met this sistah, Diane Cameron Elam, online, yestiddy, from Atlanna Jazz Egroup. She was lookin for donations to help buy a ticket to Benin, so she could go there to do a festival. We started exchanging websites and talkin on email and we jes had a good ole time. I told her how I'd raised $1100 in the nineties to go to Europe. I held a raffle and each one of my friends put in $10. There was one winner, Beverly Barkley, another singer, who got $200. The remaining $900 bought my air ticket and Eurailpass for the trains. It was a great feeling to know that my friends helped me go on the road.

I added Diane to my website and she connected me with pianist Keith Williams, a piano player who works in Japan and China.

This morning, Keith woke me up. We talked for an hour about the music, touring, gigs, hip hop, etc., etc., etc. He worked with a friend of mine, Juedienne Gordon in Jacksonville. Juedienne is Dexter Gordon's neice. Also, Keith's partner bassist Phil Morrison worked at Dante's Down The Hatch for years. And Keith knows my newest singer friend Rita Graham.

Now, I don't want to cause any dissention, but I believe the Internet is the hippest thing since the toaster!
